The Paperboy

Posted at 02:21 PM on July 06, 2009

The old woman's sneakers squeaked as she shuffled slowly across her freshly mopped kitchen floor, the sound stopping momentarily as she bent to lift the pan of meatballs from the heat of the oven. Taking a sniff of the air, she smiled pleasingly, enjoying the sweet aroma coming from the dish and just as suddenly frowned, remembering why she'd made the meatballs and sighed to herself. The little Parker girl had been missing for a couple of days with no sign of her where-a-bouts and her parents...

A Ghostly Visit

Posted at 03:30 PM on October 08, 2008

I remember it was a warm night, the night I saw him. I was just out of college and I hadn't been home long when I decided I'd go have a bubble bath to relax any stresses away. I was in my bedroom, getting out some pajamas to take with me to the restroom when I had this odd feeling of being watched. I knew I was home alone, yet I turned and looked all around my room, even going to the doorway to check the hall, but I found nothing. It was nearly dark out and I knew my brother would be bri...

Same Name On The Stone

Posted at 09:12 PM on March 14, 2008
At my parents' house  today, my mom, dad, Dave (my brother) & I were having a few laughs over my crazy teenage years when my brother mentioned the time he went with us (me & my group of best girlfriends) to a cemetery "ghost hunt" one weekend before Halloween. He remembered the whole story, so he began by finally admitting how nervous he actually was, but by being the only male, he was wanting to make a good impression, ...

RIP DAJ

Posted at 08:35 AM on November 25, 2007

It's been 16 years since I've seen you last. I can still feel your brown eyes gazing into mine as I bent to kiss your frail cheek. Still, even though you were at your sickest, I never knew that would be the last time I would see you alive. I guess I never really wanted to think about it. I didn't want to know. Looking back, I think I knew you were far worse off than I gave it credit. You were always so full of life, so carefree & light. I assumed you would beat it. After all,...

Tumbling Down

Posted at 09:14 PM on October 18, 2007

There's this place that I love & although I'd never lived there (at least not in this lifetime), it gives me such a wonderful feeling when I see it. Down in Valley View, across from a big stream, there was a large, two-story,  creek rock house. I have a book that celebrates all the old homes, buildings & land in this area & they have an actual picture of this home..back in it's day. Breathtaking! I love it, but before I'd seen this photo, I was in love with this pro...

Familiarity

Posted at 08:43 AM on October 08, 2007

The sun settles in for the night behind me as I listen to the silence. Before, the surroundings were full of light, life and sound. The voice in my head is mute. My soul still, my heart quiet. The bubbling brook's roaring flow has dimmed to a rumble as if to ready for the night. I look calm, placid..you'd never guess the rolling emotion I feel inside me. I wish I were at peace... that's always seemed to elude me. I've never decided if I seek peace because I've never had it or if the...

ROSE

Posted at 02:32 PM on October 06, 2007

My mom & I are very close. Infact, my entire family is close. We've always been that way. We celebrate each birthday, every anniversary, wedding, birth & so forth. We are the type of people that make lasting friendships & remain loyal through the ups & downs, so, when we get a good friend, we keep them. One of my earliest memories is being at The Sweet Shop (an old diner that has closed since) with my mom & her best friend since their early elementary school years, Rose, a...

GIRLS IN THE WOODS

Posted at 02:34 PM on September 26, 2007

Growing up, there were dense, thick woods way back past the wildflower fields behind our house. I believe there used to be an old country store back there many years ago, but long gone now. My best girlfriends & I would meet there at midnight, which in our young lives (from ages 11 to 15) we deemed "late".  Our meeting nights were two to five times a month, always on either a Friday or Saturday night & sometimes both on a good weekend. We ...

OCEAN WALKER

Posted at 05:45 AM on August 09, 2007

I keep having these out of body astrial projection things happen to me more & more of late. I've always been a deep sleeper, but when I leave my body, I'm normally aware of it unless I am just sooooo tired that  I don't realize I'm gone until I see something really interesting. Like this one time, I didn't know I was "flying" as I call it until I was smelling salt water. I made myself aware of my surrounds & I was completely shocked when I realized I was swoo...

A TEENAGE GHOST ENCOUNTER...

Posted at 02:41 PM on August 07, 2007

I thought I would share another odd occurance with you because I was reminded of it this morning while on the phone with my friend that all this happened to. She is one of my oldest friends, Lisa (although my nickname for her was Pee Wee cuz I could make her laugh so hard she'd wet herself! lol).  Anyhow, I was always having sleepovers & bringing my friends over for the night, ect...& this one night, as I stated above, is one Lisa can't forget & still brings up on o...

STORY OF REINCARNATION...MAYBE?

Posted at 02:50 PM on July 31, 2007

Do you believe in reincarnation? I've always been sorta wishy-washy about it because I just wasn't sure if some of the things I was seeing in my "dreams" were only dreams or visions from a past I lived before. I have early memories of "remembering" little clips & fragments of another time, places I've been, yet never been in this life & seeing "me" as a totally different person all together.

I can remember when I was a child, I asked my ...

A TRUE AND STRANGE STORY

Posted at 02:47 PM on July 26, 2007

My family is a very close family & when I was a teenager, my grandparents (Mamow & Papow, yesssss...it's a southern thing) were struggling financially with medical bills, so my parents allowed them to move in with us. I loved this idea because I considered both of them my "friends". My Papow never had much to say, so when I was hanging out with him..we mostly sat underneath a huge sugar maple tree in our backyard & "whittled" (basically a process of "skin...
